Your Credo

What is a Credo and why do I need one?

Well, I guess we all have some fundamental principles, ethics and beliefs which we live by.  The word itself is Latin and is understood to mean ‘I believe’.  By writing down and considering our own credo, we more closely define within ourselves who we are.  By looking at our credo from time to time we can also make changes and see where we have come from, if anything has changed or needs to change and why.

The word ‘credo’ is mostly used in connection with religious beliefs and so, in the context of one’s personal, spiritual development, it can be, along with the personal creation myth, a foundational exercise which we can revisit periodically.

You may wish to write a list, or perhaps an essay.  A song or poem may come to you or you may find it best to simply write a series of keynotes.  There is no wrong way, just your way.

Here’s mine by way of example:

As a raindrop is to an ocean,

As a star is to the sky,

As a leaf is to a great Oak tree,

So am I

Where I wander in my dreams,

Where the teacher begs me try,

Where the silent water ever falls,

There am I

In the change that breaks me free,

In the act of asking why,

In the joy of service to others,

Here am I

To always seek the highest option,

To never fear, instead to fly,

To understand myself in others,

I will always try.

If you send me yours, I will be happy to post them here.
