Finding your Feet
An Invitation to the Real You.
Do you see the messages in life? Do you respond to the subtle push and pull of the forces around you? Are you seeking an answer to the question of whether you are really being asked to walk a shamanic path? If you answer yes then I can appreciate the difficulty you go through trying to rationalise what it is that is being asked of you.
Its not easy to know if this path is one that we, as westerners, should adopt but really our claim to connect to the deeper mysteries, to our Ancestral heritage and to the world of spirit is a universal one and cannot be exclusive to a select few. The very fact that you are here reading this means there is a message for you to discern. What this path isn’t, however, is a self indulgent persuit of personal aggrandisement.
Sarangerel wrote in her book ‘Chosen by the Spirits’:
When I speak of being chosen by the spirits, you may think, “Well, I just read a couple of books and I find shamanism interesting but I don’t feel like I have been called,” and come to the conclusion that you are not meant to be a shaman. Don’t make that mistake. The very fact that you are reading this book at this time is meaningful. It is the spirits themselves who guided you to look for books about shamanism. It was through their prompting that when you first heard about shamanism you did not just give it a passing thought and then go on with your life’s journey. Your yearning to know more about shamanism and to learn to become a shaman is a sign that the spirits are calling you.
‘I can’t tell you that this calling is right for you and you may find yourself deeply invested in learning about shamanic processes before discovering that although you share the belief, the path of a healer is not for you. That’s fine too. The path of discovery has many different ways but honesty with ourselves, above all, is most important.
So what is it that pulls someone towards Shamanism? The Spirits do, but the usual, well documented list is something like this:
* A knowing in childhood of all things having a spirit
* Seeing or being contacted by spirits
* A serious illness which defies medical help
* A near death experience
* A crisis which brings you to realise your true spiritual path or which is alleviated only by following the shamanic calling from spirit.
* The ability to enter trance
* Being recognised by another Shaman
Be honest with yourself but don’t discount the possibility either.
